Whether you're looking to update your skills, understand new perspectives, or ensure that your practice is welcoming and effective for people of all sizes, this course is for you.

Who is this course not for?

This course may not be suitable for birth professionals who are not ready to approach their practice with an open mind or are unwilling to address and work through biases related to supporting individuals in larger bodies.

Additionally, in our course, we emphasize the use of inclusive language to respect and support people of all bodies and backgrounds. We recognize that individuals in larger bodies often face multiple marginalizations, and our aim is to provide respectful, evidence-based information. If you are uncomfortable with inclusive language that respects and holds space for LGBTQ+ families and various gender identities, this course might challenge your current practice. We encourage only those ready to embrace these aspects fully to enroll.

Who is the instructor?

Jen McLellan, CBE (she/her) the instructor of this course, is a distinguished advocate and leader in size-inclusive maternity care in the United States. As the founder of Plus Size Birth, Jen has dedicated over a decade to empowering plus size pregnancies by educating families and healthcare professionals, aiming to improve treatment for individuals in larger bodies.

With the Plus Size Birth website amassing over 8 million pageviews and her Plus Mommy Podcast surpassing 300,000 downloads, McLellan's work resonates widely, reaching millions across her social media platforms. 

Jen's role extends beyond that of a platform creator and podcast host; she is an accomplished author, speaker, and certified childbirth educator. McLellan has traveled across the country, sharing her insights and strategies with birth professionals from various sectors. The National Institutes of Health's endorsement of her work emphasizes its impact on maternal healthcare.

This in-depth course offers more than six and a half hours of video instruction available on the Teachable platform, requiring internet access to fully interact with the educational material. Additionally, there are valuable resources such as a PDF workbook, digital worksheet, and various activities, all designed to enhance your learning experience.

Alongside Jen's teachings, you'll engage with video and audio clips from birth professionals and families who share their personal experiences and insights. What contact hours does this course include?

This course offers six (6) contact hours. It is recognized by the California Board of Registered Nursing for nursing contact hours and by the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) for general contact hours. You'll select the option that best fits your educational needs, noting that you can only claim contact hours from one organization.

California Board of Registered Nursing: Amanda Irby is the course provider for this workshop. Provider is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 17690, for 6 contact hours. The certificate must be retained by the licensee for a period of four years after the course ends.

International Childbirth Education Association: Assigned program number CTNC03_0124.
